The month of August 2007 the US lost a net of 4000 jobs. Mostly in education and manufacturing. Seems Americans are in love with Ikea and don’t have a problem with Ikea costing US furniture manufactures 4000 jobs. The 4000 furniture jobs represents the whole month of August’s net loss for 4000 jobs. One thing to say about Ikea furniture, it helps destroy American jobs and sends our wealth over seas. Nice!
Taken from http://www.arkansasbusiness.com:
Employment in education dropped by nearly 32,000 in August, a month when we should see employment going up as kids return to school.
Manufacturing employment declined by 46,000 in August. It has lost 215,000 jobs over the past year. Within durable goods, there were job losses in motor vehicles and parts (-11,000), machinery (-7,000), wood products (-7,000), furniture and related products (-4,000), and semiconductors and electronic components (-4,000). In nondurable goods manufacturing, job losses continued in apparel (-4,000) and in textile mills (-2,000).
Construction employment declined by 22,000 jobs in August
As the nation grows older and people are living longer health care leads the way in new jobs for the month. The second big gainer was low paying restuarant jobs and hospitality jobs which pay much less than the manufacturing and education sectors. While jobs are still being created and the national unemployment figures are decent, the US is not creating or maintaining high or decent paying jobs.
Please see the whole dismal report here:
August was a net loss of 4000 US jobs!
